Overview

Over six years, Geekibo undertook the transformation of Dexcom’s legacy CAMSTAR reporting system to address critical challenges in performance, scalability, and reliability. With Dexcom expanding its operations globally and launching new product lines, the existing system struggled to keep pace. Our first step was to decouple the user experience (UX) layer from the data retrieval processes, enabling a smoother user interaction while maintaining backend flexibility. We introduced asynchronous data loading, which allowed users to access partial report data while additional details were processed in the background, significantly improving usability and response times.

A robust API layer was developed to encapsulate business domain logic and ensure consistent data access across reports. These APIs were designed to handle high volumes of data requests, standardizing business rule applications and minimizing redundancy in the system. To enhance data processing capabilities, we implemented a real-time replicated database for high-performance indexing. This enabled faster query execution and supported Dexcom’s manufacturing workflows by handling large-scale data retrieval efficiently.

As Dexcom’s global footprint grew, scalability became a key focus. The redesigned system accommodated the integration of additional manufacturing facilities and supported the rollout of new product lines in multiple countries. By surfacing 250,000 unique data points per report instance, the system provided comprehensive insights into production workflows, empowering Dexcom to make data-driven decisions. Furthermore, the APIs processed an average of 500,000 requests daily, delivering responses with a remarkably low average response time of 232ms.

Through this transformation, we not only resolved the limitations of the legacy system but also positioned Dexcom for sustained operational success. The modernized CAMSTAR platform now serves as a cornerstone of their global manufacturing strategy, ensuring reliability, scalability, and actionable reporting for years to come.
